My organization is holding an event. How do I request a Bookstore donation?
All donations from the Bookstore must be approved by the Associated Students. To ask for a donation, submit the Donation Request form here.
When will class textbooks be posted?
Course textbooks are posted online 4 weeks (28 days) before the start of each quarter. Please be aware that the list continues to update regularly through the first several weeks of class. If no books are listed for your course the best thing to do is to check your syllabus and/or contact your professor to confirm no materials are required.
I ordered an ebook now what?
After checking out on the website, you will receive an email from RedShelf or VitalSource that contains the access code and/or instructutions for accessing your materials. Once downloaded, the item is not refundable.
The materials listed for my course say IA or Inclusive Access. What is this?
Inclusive access materials will be provided digitally via Canvas. You will have access to a digital book and any supplimental materials. These materials have a cost associated with them which will be charged to your student account.
You are automatically opted in to buying IA materials by enrolling in a course with IA and must manually opt out if you do not want to be charged.
If you would like to opt out of having the digital materials please follow the prompts after logging into your Canvas course to opt out. You must opt out by the add/drop date, otherwise your student account will be charged. Once you opt-out, you will no longer have access to the links in Canvas. Charges to student accounts occur 5-7 business days after the add/drop date. The optional discounted loose leaf is only available to those students who remain opted in after this date.
Why do we have shipping charges?
The AS Bookstore is self-supporting and we do not attempt to make profit on shipping fees. Charging for shipping allows the pricing or cost of goods to be lower for in-store shopping.
Why should I shop for textbooks at the A.S. Bookstore?
We are a local, university owned self-supporting student store since 1910. Shopping with us keeps dollars on campus and supports student employment as well as student activities. Our team works directly with WWU faculty to provide up to date and accurate information on which books you need for your classes.
Do you rent textbooks?
Yes, we do. We work hard to offer as many rental options as possible each quarter, but not all titles will be available to rent. To learn more about rentals click here.
Are all textbooks available in used or new condition?
We do our best to provide used textbooks, but cannot guarantee availability. Used or new book availability depends on a variety of factors, including publication edition, faculty requirement, and publisher and wholesaler availability.
How long do I have to return my rented books?
Books are due on the last day of the quarter, and we prefer to return texts in person when available. Review our return policy HERE.
Do you buy back used books?
At present Book Buyback is offered for a limited number of days in person on the last week of classes and online year-round, click HERE to learn more.
What determines the buy back price when I sell my books back?
The buyback price is determined by a variety of factors. For buyback pricing, textbooks fall in to one of two categories. During the course of a quarter or buyback period, a title may move from one category to another based on demand. The categories are as follows:
- If a faculty member has notified the University Book Store that a book will be used on campus next quarter, in most cases we will pay a percentage of the current new book price, even if you bought the book used or the new book price was lower at the time of your purchase.
- Used book wholesalers determine the prices they will pay for certain books. We technically act as the wholesaler's agent and buy the book for the company from the student, and must use their prices. Nationwide demand, current wholesaler supply and anticipated revision dates are some of the factors that the wholesale companies use in determining the prices they offer.
- A new edition has been published
- There is little or no nationwide demand
- There is excess wholesale supply
- The book is in poor (non-salable) condition
Do I save money when I purchase a used textbook?
Absolutely! By purchasing used books and participating in buyback, you can save up to 75% off the new book price.
Order processing time will be delayed during peak processing times, such as back to school. We appreciate your patience and will fulfill your order as quickly as possible.
The class I am ordering books for has two titles listed EITHER/OR. What does that mean?
- Choice - You can choose either of the books with this option. Only one is needed for the class.
- Either/Or - You can choose either of the books with this option. Only one is needed for the class. They are different formats of the same title (i.e. one is loose-leaf and the other is hardbound)
- Optional - This book is not needed for the class. This is usually listed for study guides or solution manuals.
- Required - The professor requires this book to pass the class. Your class readings and assignments will be based on the materials in this book.
- Optional eBook - There is an alternative format available as an eBook. Please check with your professor to determine acceptability of this format (eBook) for your course.
Are all items guaranteed in stock?
No, during peak times inventory levels can change quickly. If an item on your order is not in stock you will receive an email stating that the item is on backorder. In most cases reorders of course materials take two business days to arrive. Apparel and gift items vary depending on the vendor.
What happens if my book is not available when I order it?
We will mark the item as backordered and notify you. We will not process payment for that the item until it arrives. Re-orders generally take 2-4 business days.
If both new and used copies are shown on the web site, will I get the book condition I ordered?
We work hard to provide the exact books you requested, however availability (especially for used books) can be limited, and are sold on a 'first come first serve' basis.
How do I cancel my order?

Do I need to set up an account or have a login/password to order?
No, you may order as a 'guest'. The only benefit to using an account at checkout is to help track the progress of your order and expedite your next visit.
I can't login to my bookstore account how do I recover my login/password?
The bookstore does not have direct access to your account and login/password recovery will be delayed. If you need a quick solution you may check out as a guest or create a new login with an alternate email address.
What forms of payment do you accept for online orders?
We accept all major credit cards and A.S. Bookstore Gift Cards. We also accept Student Account Charges. Student accounts open 30 days prior to the first day of class and close 30 days after the first day of class each quarter.
